Ok, I am new to the forum, I have been wandering around here for a while now, I thought I would join and ask some questions.
I am getting ready to buy 4 acres of farm ground, I already have 3 acres here on the farm and I am planing on buying another 20 or so acres in the next year. I have had old tractors for a long time now, it seems like there is always something wrong with one or the other, so I got to thinking about buying a new tractor. I instantly went to Kubota, I already have a little 1975 Kubota L2000 (20hp) and I love it. The old thing always starts no mater what, if something breaks, I just manufacture another part my self and the old 2wd tractor handles the loader, plow, tiller ect perfectly and I would not hesitate to buy another Kubota. I then quickly realized how expensive Kubota was and I had to spend a couple thousand dollars just for a warranty! REALLY?????. So after being disappointed and bummed out for a while I started looking into other brands. I then came across a local dealer that sells TYM and LS tractors, I liked the look of the LS tractors over the TYM and now I'm wanting to buy one this summer. I'm thinking about getting a 35hp model, something like the XR3135C, I definitely want a cab, we have no trees around here and I'm going to be in this tractor all summer and winter.

Here is what I'm wanting to do with this tractor.
Pull a 2 bottom plow, pull my 8ft disk (12" tall disk), pull my 10ft spring tooth, pull a small 4 row planter, pull a 8 to 10 ft drill and also run a tiller and a manure spreader (old wheel drive type).

I will also be doing normal loader work, light digging and probably hauling a lot of manure/compost to the gardens and fields.

My overall idea is to raise organic old varieties of grains, we mill all of our own flour, corn and ect. It is very hard to find the right grains that we want and I have decided to start growing them.

I'm am not wanting to do all this farming with a huge tractor, everyone I talk to says I need to buy a 90hp+ tractor and I just see no point. People have been farming with very low hp tractors since the beginning of the tractor, I love running tractors and machinery. I don't really care if it takes me a couple extra days with a low hp tractor to get the work done.

Please let me know what you think of this model of tractor? and would anyone know what one would cost? with 4wd cab loader ag tread tires.
Thanks for any info, sorry for the long post :ashamed:

A tractor suitable for 7 acres will be undersize for 27 acres.

Here is what I want to do with this tractor:
Pull a 2 bottom plow, pull my 8ft disk (12" tall disk), pull my 10ft spring tooth, pull a small 4 row planter, pull a 8 to 10 ft drill and also run a tiller and a manure spreader (old wheel drive type). (My Kubota L3560/Open Station is fairly close in spec.)

Where is the MANURE coming from??????

Working with your current implements the XR3135 will be ample. If you grow to 27 acres, with most planted, it will be time for wider, heavier implements and, ideally, a heavier, more powerful LS to operate the larger implements. Keeping your existing implements for working 27 acres is NOT realistic. You will need every minute you can squeeze into your week farming 27 acres. Farming 27 acres while being employed in a town job is unrealistic time-wise and stress-wise. Keep hobby farming fun.

For working 27 acres efficiently I would consider a 55 horsepower LS XU5055C, which has a Category 2 Three Point Hitch. LINK: XU5055C ォ LS Tractor USA

My overall idea is to raise old varieties of grains organically. We mill all of our own flour, corn and etc. It is very hard to find the grains we want so I have decided to start growing them.

Seven acres should be ample for this 'hobby farm' goal. How will you harvest, segregate, thresh and mill seven acres of grain?

You do not want 27 acres of same. You can't find these grains because there is minuscule consumer demand for them. I raised wine grapes organically during five of my working years. I fool with organic Blueberries in retirement. With fruit, organic production increases your labor commitment several fold. Keep hobby farming fun.

What do you do for income now? Is your wife employed? Will teenagers be operating your equipment in the near future?

I have gone over LS tractors two years at the Suncoast Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia. Mighty fine iron, good competition for Kubota. No reports of hard starting during winter. Very few repairs reported here. Keep in mind a cab and air conditioning add weight, which improves traction, but a certain amount of horsepower is absorbed powering the cab weight + A/C down the field. It takes a 50% increase in tractor weight/power before you really feel it.

How far distant is your LS tractor dealership?

Kubota warranty is included in the tractor price. You do not pay any surcharge for the Kubota warranty. However, ALL tractor brands are tough on warranty claims. What you think should be a warranty claim manufactures classify as operator error or normal wear and tear, so I recommend buying insurance on a new tractor.

If you finance any brand of tractor you must buy insurance. Most customers financing a Kubota tractor opt for Kubota owned KTAC tractor insurance, which is about $400 per year. KTAC insurance is inclusive and no hassle, nearly 'no fault' with claims. I have had one claim on each of the two new Kubota tractors I financed through Kubota. I was VERY GLAD I had KTAC insurance as the two repair claims, combined, totaled $4,400.

35hp seems low for the equipment you listed. Any thoughts of going to no-till? You'd for sure want more power if that were the case.

I have an LS P7010 and my 8 foot disk will cause wheel slippage even in 4WD in damp soil when the disk goes to the axles. The P7010 would for sure run about anything you wanted to pull. However I think the minimum you can use for your activities is going to be around 55 HP in order to get the lift capacity for the 4 row planters without getting too light in the front end.

The model your looking at is fairly well matched to your implements except for the disk and drill. Both really need to get closer to the 50 hp range to keep from putting too much strain on your new tractor.

The OP is dedicated to ORGANIC PRODUCTION.

Note: OP pulls his 8' X 12" Disc with 20-hp and 2-WD.

While not entirely clear, the OP's Disc Harrow apparently has 12" diameter pans. It would useful as a smoothing Disc for use after a 12" Moldboard Plow but I expect OP needs to make several secondary tillage passes.

In my experience, having owned both sizes, the lightest Disc Harrow which is effective has 18" diameter pans, with 20" diameter pans first size which is really effective. With a Disc Harrow with 20" or 22" diameter pans and annual use, the OP could cease plowing after breaking the ground once with his plow.

A 8' X 22" Disc Harrow would require the XU5055C to pull it reliably.

Thanks for the replies, my closest dealer is 40 miles away in Moundridge KS, I have already been talking to him about his tractors.
The manure/compost will be hauled in with my dump truck to where it is needed, the manure spreader will probably be loaded with my Kubota and pulled by the LS or the other way around.

I'm not worried about how long it will take me, I have nothing but time, I don't work, no wife, no kids and money isn't a worry. I had a Farmall A tractor and in the manual it said this tractor was built for the farmer with 100 acres or less, keep in mind the Farmall A had tested out at 16hp on the draw bar. My neighbor (in the 50's and 60's) farmed a couple hundred acres with a Farmall H (24hp on draw bar) and they used a old Gleaner combine with a old 3/4 ton pickup (non dump bed) that they used for a grain truck. I figure people used to farm like this, so why can't I farm with smaller machinery now??? Besides, sitting in a cab with a A/C and radio beats sitting here in the house with out a A/C ;)

I am planning on buying a smaller "mini" combine with a 8' header, I have seen some made by LS but I don't know if they are sending them to the U.S, I am getting some grain bins (free) so storing the grain isn't a issue.

My question is, what would the XR3135C cost? like I said above, with loader, 4wd, ag tires, fluid filled all the way around. I have lots of wheel weights of my own since I used to be a antique tractor salvage.

When I was at the Kubota website, I picked out the right model of tractor that I wanted, it said it was going to cost a extra $2000 for a 3 year warranty, I thought that was weird and looked else where. I also emailed John Deere, Kubota, Kioti, LS and TYM. The LS and TYM dealer was the only one I emailed back, so I thought the rest of them must not want my business. I also liked that LS has a much higher lift capacity
