None -yet. Until then FunBuggy (EZ-Go) will have to do!
My wife and I just found that our first grandchild will arrive sometime in February! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I always wondered how I'd react to learning that I was going to be Grandfather. Well, it's really COOL ! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Do Grandfathers say COOL ?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyway, the wife and I were discussing what our grandchild might call us. We've heard of people being called Gramps, Pops, Boompa, Bapa, Bumpa, Nana, Grammy, etc. How do these kids start calling their grandparents names like this? As a kid, all I ever called my grandparents was grandpa or grandma. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif We are not necessarily enamored with the idea of being called Boompa, or Nana, or whatever, not that we would necessarily have a lot of control over it! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So I was just wondering how many different names for grandparents, pa's or ma's, there are out there. Also, how did the more unusual names come about?

My wife wanted to be called granny. But our first had trouble with the gr sound and he decided she was nanny instead. The other grandmother is called mimi. They call me powpaw and the other grandfather pawpaw. You are in for a lot of fun. Last weekend they were over to our house and first thing you know (at 57 yrs) I was out in the yard on the slip-n-slide with them. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Does keep you young.

It's been a few years since that came up at our house. The kids just call me Granddaddy, but call my wife Nana. My wife's mother is Granny.

Ah, that's the kind of thing I'm looking forward to! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As far as what they might call me, I have a feeling that I won't care all that much once I hear it coming from his/her mouth, regardless of what it is! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bird,

I don't think I'd mind Granddaddy, but I think the wife doesn't care for Nana. But I think she'll live with whatever they might call her just as long as she gets to spoil them! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm not sure what they should call you, but you better not leave the keys in the FunBuggy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (especially if it's a boy)

You got that right! I've already told my son that only grandpa gets to take the little one for a ride! I figure that will always make the grandchildren excited about visiting grandpa's!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer Grandma and Grandpa -- and that is what my kids call their grandparents. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Garry,

I'm in those awkward years now. You know the ones... Kids are grown and gone but no grandchildren yet...

With that the only thing I can rely on is what my kids called and still call their grandparents on both sides. It's 'grandma' and 'grandpa' always. When referring to them so as to avoid confusion the last names were added like 'Grandma Smith' or 'Grandpa Jones' but that was it.

As was said above, it's certainly traditional but I don't think there's anything wrong with that, expecially where grandparents age concerned.

Congrats on the grandchild. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
