A guy in my area has a 6 foot Harley rake for sale and wants $2000 for it. It is a little older model and I think it was a "TR36" on the ID plate. It looks a bit used but in overall good condition and cared for.

This one does not have the carbide tip roller but rather one with "slots" in it/bar across the roller (sorry its hard to explain).

Does this rake with the slotted/bar roller work as well as the one with carbide? Anything I should look for? Is this a fair price. I need to put in about 4-5 acres of yard and want something to do it right. I cannot find anyone within 1.5 hours who rents one of these.

Any advice/help would be appreciated. I already did a search and found that most people here think they are great.

Thanks for any help.

Some TBNers may be able to answer your questions, but I would also call the HarleyRake people (GlenMac) and talk to one of their reps. They have been friendly the couple of times I have called. They will definitely be helpful re: comparisons/features/limitations/uses, etc. I think at least some older models can be refitted with the carbide tip roller. I believe www.glenmac.com is their web site.

The eribbed rollers work fine and are still used by many people including myself. They do not work quite as well when you are tearing up existing lawns. An older Harley rake will work fine and that is a good price.

Thanks for the help...I knew I'd good advice here! I did email Glenmac about 2 days ago but have not heard back. Maybe I will try giving them a call too.

I hear you can buy a newer carbide tipped roller but I bet the price is pretty high!

'Bout $1400 if I remember.... even with that added expense, it's still cheaper than a new one...

There is a twisted roller model for sale in my area. When I called Harley they recomended the carbide tipped model for rocks and making a flat surface. There is also a firm in Antigo that builds a model similar to the harley with carbides. They want $1600. for a steel roller with inserts. Either way they are expensive. Good luck. jr
