Going to purchase a Box Blade for TC33. Is a 72" to big for the TC33D or would a harder to find 66" be better or even a 60"? I think I will go with First Choice and am not sure they make a 66".

I think you'd be ok with a 72 inch. 60 may not cover your tracks. You'll have no problem pulling a 72 inch without the scarifiers down and even when down if you lose traction you just lift a little. Even with a 5 foot there are times the ripper wil hook a rock and you'll spin. My rule is if in doubt always go larger, you can always take a smaller bite. I have a 5 foot box on a 27hp tractor but also use a 7foot blade and wouldn't want a smaller one. If I was buying another box I would probably go with a 6footer.

I've got a TC33D (with loaded R4 tires) with a 72" Woods box blade. I find it a good match. I'm using it in rocky Vermont soil. I can bog myself down when I hit a good sized rock or root, but it has not been a serious problem. I'd buy the same size again if I had it to do over. It's also a nice size for maintaining my gravel driveway.

I would NOT go with the 60" ... it's too small and will not cover your tracks.

By the way, if you take the time to fill out your bio information (click on the control panel button) and tell us a bit about yourself, we can tailor our advice to your uses and geographical area. If you are up in my neck of the woods, I'd be happy to let you try out my box blade.

The tread width on my TC33D with R4's is about 57". I have 60" rear blade, and I am happy with it. My FEL, MMM, & blade are all 60" wide. My dealer wanted to sell me a 72' rear blade, but since I have a lot of trees I opted for the 60". If I fit through a hole with one attachment, I can fit through the hole with anything else. The only problem that I expect to run into is if I angle my blade for snow removal. If I do this, trigonometry will come into play and then I won't be able to cover my tracks if I angle my blade more than 15 degrees. I am thinking about getting a 63" nylon insert for snow removal which should be good for 25 degrees. Angling shouldn't be a problem with a box blade. Just my $0.02.

Hmmm. now I'll have to go out and measure mine. I could swear it was over 60" (63" sticks in my mind for some reason). Which is why I went with 72".

You don't by any chance have your rear tires dished in, do you? Don't know why, but my manual says not to do that with R4's (haven't looked to see if clearance is an issue).

John,

I measured my tire width before I purchased, since I wanted a 60" MMM and was concerned about covering my tracks. Even at 57", I asked my dealer to dish them in, but he said it wasn't possible.

Well BidDave is right if you measure the footprint. The footprint of the rear r4's is about 57". But the tire and rim are wider.

I have a First Choice 72" Heavy Duty BB30-72 on my TC33D with r4's and love it. I can run with the scarefire down and really tear up the soil. Do sometimes loose traction when I catch a root.
