Box Scraper What size Box Blade?

Hello,

I just Purchased a brand new McCormick CT50U and my first attachment besides the FEL is going to be a Box Blade. Just wondering what size this machine can handle? 45HP with a synchro shuttle transmission is what I have to work with. I'm thinking 7 foot but I don't want to get something to big for the machine. Any advice is appreciated.

Also does anyone have any advice about what other attachment is a must have for landscaping. I have seen what a box blade can do and they are amazing, but I'd like to know what other attachments can compliment a box blade, I have an acre at my new home that I need to get looking good as soon as the snow melts. Thanks in advance to any advice, thoughts or help.

I don't know the weight or the soil conditions where you are. I have a L4400 and it is 46HP I have a 7 foot Box Blade(BB) and it pulls it fine. I think if I were to buy it over again I would go with a 6 footer. That would just cover my tire width and when I go the the woods with the 7 footer it tends to get hung on trees. If your soil is soft or sandy a 7 foot would pull great but if it is hard pack and rocky it might be a bit much.

7 foot would handel fine depending on soil. One thing that is nice for moving snow is a rear blade. I used mine on my little Yanmar and was able to clear 5" of snow off of the driveway for the first time. Way better that using a FEL since you can angle it left, right, and reverse for better grading. I am actually grading a driveway tomarrow with it. That and my boxblade work as an excelent team for dirt work and grading.

I have a 72" on my 60" wide JD 3320 with R4 tires. The 3320 handles it well in all circumstances except on steep inclines of loose sand with a BB full of the same. I lose traction real quick, even in 4WD with a loader full of dirt to help keep weight on the front. I like having a bit of overhang with the BB so I just live with the lack of traction. What I need is Ag tires, not a smaller BB.

I got a used 6 ft box blade for my CK35, it was used and at a good price.
Best though would have been a 5 ft. If I had to buy a new one it would be a 5 ft. With a box blade I don't think bigger is better. Generally you want one that is just wider than you tires.

Thanks for the info guys, hopefully my new tractor gets here tomorrow and I can check with a measuring tape what kind of overhang I will have with a 6 foot or 7 foot. Our terrian up here is a glacial till so pretty much means you could hit anything from clay to gravel to sand maybe eveN rock, but there is little to no solid rock on my land, I'll be staying away from any that I may find.

The BB that I was quoted on was an ORION, anybody have any experience with these, do they have a website, I didn't look very hard but did not see one, but when I did a quick search it brought me to the King of all Tractor sites TBN.

I recomend you get a 7' landscape rake and a similar size landplane, you can do a lot of raking and smoothing to put in a new lawn with this combination. If you can swing it consider a 6' tiller and a small pull type lawn seeder.
