What size disc for 33 hp diesel tractor?

I have a 33hp JD diesel tractor 2WD and would like to know what size disc that I can use. I was looking at a 5' or a 6' disc to used for deer food plots. Any suggestions? Thanks

since its a 2wd drive id say a 5ft disc.that gives you over 6hp pre foot of disc.

my 1946 ford 2n pulls a 6.5' dual ganged ford disc just fine. ( about 23hp.. )

Need model. If older ag tractor should be no problem with either. If newer compact might stay with 5'.

A lot of factors dictate what it can handle. R1 Ag tires are going to give you a lot more pulling power before you spin out than turfs or R4s. Older tractors are generally considerably heavier than their modern CUT hp equivalents. Soil conditions Clay vs loam also dictate what it can comfortably pull. Disc diameter also plays a part but can be alleviated by controlling depth with the 3pt.

All this being said it should be able to handle a 5' no issues at all and a 6.5' most likely pending you are running ag tires on the back. If it struggles pulling a 6.5' you can usually adjust the angle so you are not getting as heavy a bite to make it pull easier.

I pull a 6.5 disc with my Oliver Super 55 2wd 35hp gasser with no issues in medium loam soil without any issues. If the soil is wet I will spin out occassionally but just lift the disc and move on and that is usually only if I am breaking new ground. Land that has been previously tilled for food plots that were annuals such as row crops or brassicas will till considerably easier than working up a 3 year old clover plot.

For CUTTING, as for establishing food plots, you will want a 16/18" model which has 9" between discs.

If the surface is rough, or sloped, both of which limit traction, a 5' or 5'-6" 16/18" harrow will be all you can pull with a 2,000 pound tractor and 2-WD.

If your Deere weights 3,000 pounds or more, you can pull the larger 6' or 6'-6" 16/18" harrow.

Try to select a Disc Harrow with a cutting width which will cover your tire tracks.

A box-frame Disc Harrow is stronger, heavier, more adjustable and less prone to work-loose than an angle-iron frame Disc Harrow.

One more thing to think about. As the older tractors pulled gang discs just fine, modern discs are built to be picked up with the 3pt and carried. That 6ft with a bit of weight on it might make for a very light front end. 4wd and a loader sure makes a difference on pulling.

Thanks everyone for the great input. It is a JD 1050 with Ag tires and a front end loader. It ways over 3,000 lbs with the loader. I will make a decision on one of the used discs and let everyone know how it goes.

you can still get pull and 3pt disc implements.

for ref.. a 6.5' 2 ganged ford disc was able to be picke dup by my 2n as well. front bumper was a 75# weight.
