I am looking at used tow behind discs for food plot work. I have a 100hp tractor. Some plots as small as half an acre some as big as 2 acres. I am not a farmer and don't know a lot about this equipment. I don't want to over size. Are the notched disc blades worth having for uncut fields? How do you get a smooth end result with a disc?
Any advice is appreciated.

A lot will depend on what you can find used. Get something that will cover your tracks at least but not so large you need too much room to turn around, your plots aren't that big. 8-12' would would be good and I wouldn't be afraid to go a little bigger if you got a great deal.

I run notched on the front, smooth on the rear and for a good smooth finish get a drag harrow that you can tow behind the disc or pull by itself.

Think about getting a plow also, your tractor could pull a seven shank chisel plow.

Good luck!
