What size disk for a L3940?

I've been a lurker for some time now. This makes me an official poster. I just traded up from a B7800 to a L3940. I needed more loader capacity to haul wood out of the woods to feed my outdoor wood burner. I also will be using it for food plotting for deer. (My attempt at being a gentleman farmer).

My question is what size of a disk can I pull behind the L3940? I have about 5 acres spread out across 80 acres of lowland woods. Some of the areas are ditchbank spoils that are sandy, the others are heavy soils. I'm thinking I need a 3pt disk to manuever in some of the tighter areas. Any suggestions?

You should be able to handle a 6' disk without any problems at all. Check your 3 pt lift specs against the weight of the disk and get the heaviest disk you can afford. The King Kutter and Leinbach disks seem similar in weight and build (both so-so). Tufline makes similar disks as well but they also have a line of very heavy duty and VERY heavy disks. Good stuff, but possibly overkill for your needs. Quite expensive too.

A lift disk (3pt) is indeed what you need. Nothing wrong with a pull disk but they are harder to maneuver in tight places.

I'm in the same spot as you (small foodplots) and hope to get a disk this summer. I have an L4400. A tad more hp than you but I bet your 3 pt hitch can lift more than the 4400. I'd love to have a heavy, more expensive disk but it just isn't in the cards so I think I'm going to get the Leinbach (they are near by and I can pick it up from them to avoid middle man mark up.)

I toyed with a really heavy duty 7' Tufline. I could lift it but it had 22 or 24" disks and there wasn't enough clearance for safe travel. And even with the loader on it made the little 4400 very light up front. Don't have enough money for one of those anyway.
