Need to get a tiller for my New Holland T2310 (same as the TC40D). Been looking hard at the King Kutter II, either in 5' or 6'. The 5' won't quite cover my 67" rear track and it doesn't offset, and the 6' specs say it needs a 35-50 HP tractor. Although my 2310 is a 40 HP tractor, it only makes 33.2 HP at the rear PTO. That, coupled with the HST tranny and the R4 tires, make me wonder if that tractor can handle the 6' tiller. I much rather go the 6' tiller, but will I have trouble pulling it?

Anybody have a T2310/TC-40D/Boomer 30xx with a 6' tiller? How does it perform?

Since you have a hydrostatic drive unit you will have better control over your ground speed. That is a plus when it comes to using tillers. You have the HP so I feel you should go with a 6Ft. unit. It is always better to cover the tire tracks, but you may want to keep your soil conditions in mind. If you try tilling during a draught time you may have to move real slow.

Shouldn't be a problem. I turn a 6' one with about 29 PTO HP. Takes two passes in sod, one in turned soil.

There is something that one needs to be aware of when using tillers. Make sure when your tiller is hooked up that your pto shaft is clear of any draw bars or draw bar mounts. I've seen some pto shafts get all messed up because the tractor draw bars where not removed.

It make look good and clear of the draw bar with it sitting on top of the ground, but when it gets to digging and it sits below ground level it needs to be checked again.

Go with the 6' tiller. If you ever get in soil too tough for it (not likely) you can always remove one set of tines. My 6' KKII tiller is one of my favorite attachments.

I second Jinman and the others. Get the 6 foot KKII. I use one behind my L3940 w/31 PTO hp. It works fine. I set the cruise 1 mph or less and it will pulverize the black gumbo I have for soil.

You will be fine with a 6'.
I run a 6' KKII tiller behind my 28.3 PTO HP tractor with no problem.

Thanks for all the replies guys, looks like I'll be going with the 6' tiller. I'll have a real use for it in the spring, tilling in the horse manure into the existing garden, tilling new garden area, and replanting some other areas.

Then when the "natural gas liquids" pipeline gets run across my property later this year (MUCH against my wishes.....), I'll probably have to fix their great job on the surface.

Thanks Grizz and everyone who posted, this thread helps me make up my mind too. I'm working a Bobcat CT335 hydro with 38 gross hp and 26.5 hp at the pto. I too would like to get a 6 foot tiller to cover the tracks but didn't know what to make of the hp ratings on tillers either.

By the way does anyone have an opinion of the Phoenix line of tillers sold by Ken Sweet?
