Kubota B7800
I've kinda (sorta, well, uh, uhm) settled on the B7800HSD, but, before I decide...

...what is the largest Kubota that would be usable for yard (not fancy lawn) mowing, without being so heavy as to mark up the yard too much?

The B7800 weighs 1741lbs. The B3030 weighs 1852lbs.

Jumping to the L series, the L3130HST is 3305lbs, 3430HST is 3305 also, and the L3830HST is 3340lbs.

I just want to make sure I won't be sorry for picking a "smaller" tractor even though the b7800 will do way more than I need right now.

I'd rather have pre-buyers remorse than post-buyers remorse. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks

you might want to define " yard ". Small? acre? 5 acres? It may make a big difference in the answers you get. Are trees a consideration or is it wide open? Things like that.

Sorry should have repeated from an early post -- but mainly I'm concerned with how the grass and dirt underneath will get beaten down by a larger tractor.

But, to answer, about 5-6 acres, mostly open but there are areas with trees, playgrounds, etc that I will mow around.

I'm thinking the B7800 is the way to go but just want to think about loud a bit. ;-)

I can't speak from experience, but from what I have read on this board over the past couple of years, but a 7800 would do fine for 5-6 acres of mowing. Others have posted about mowing with that machine and like it. If you have soggy areas I would be a little concerned about the weight though.

No soggy areas, and it sounds like the B7800 is prob a good weight for this, as opposed to moving to something bigger.

I finish mow about 2 acres. Used a 600 Ford for years. Moved up to a 4330 with cab last year. No problems. I edge up with push mower and weed eater. teddy

I would say you are in the ballpark for mowing duties, but is mowing going to be what you do mostly with the tractor? There are many considerations when buyiong a tractor to fit your needs. What other things are you going to be using it for?

The sky's the limit. Mowing is the main thing but there will be many projects -- mulch moving, tilling, dirt moving, driveway grading, gravel spreading, snow plowing (not much snow tho), tree planting, tree transplanting (smaller ones), and I'm sure I'll find many many things to do with the tractor.

I definitely don't want anything smaller than the 7800, but don't want anything so big that I'll tear up our lawn or made ruts in it due to the weight.

Thanks!

Are you talking about a mid mount mower, a 3 point mower or either? My L3830 easily handles a 84" finnish mower, it is also the largest Kubota that still accepts a mid mount mower, I am pretty sure the L4330 does not even though it does have a optional mid PTO. When not in 4WD, the L3830 is quite easily on grass, even more so I am sure with big fat turf tires.

As A B7800 owner for 2+ years my lawn looks pretty darn good. What I like about the tractor is it can go from lawn to trail to "light" wood clearing work. For the 10 acres lot it is perfect. Does the driveway too, in the winter. I think it takes less than five minutes for 200+ feet. Usually two passes.
Now for the 50+ acre farm, well it is too small to pull the machinery I am looking at.

My B7800 with a RFM is just awesome on the lawns. Small enough to get around trees, large enough to stay out of trouble and make a quick job out of cutting grass.
