Kubota L4400 with LA703 loader, Ford NAA
I'm in the market for a new bottom plow for my L4400 for food plot tillage.

I've currently got an old Dearborn (Ford) 2X12" bottom plow. The L4400 is way overkill for it although it works well. It flies through the ground with little effort.

Looking for 3pt type, thinking at least 3X14" or 3X16".

What can I pull with the L4400/45hp?

No experience with a plow on my Kubota, but the manual for my MX4700 suggests 2x16. I am pretty sure when I was young we only used 3x16 on our Massey and it had 65hp at the drawbar and draft control.

What kind of soil? Tires? You may begin to want for traction without Ag (R1) tires. Do you have draft control? Without draft you may not be happy with a plow that more nearly maxes out the tractor because you will bog down in the tougher pulling spots.

Good Luck

I would stick with the 2x12..speed helps to roll it over.I use the same plow on my L4240,wouldn't want a three bottom in our soil.

I have an old Ford 2/12 that I used with my 2000, 4000 Ford tractors and later on my L2900 Kubota. It was a little much for the Kubota, but worked well on the Fords. I will probably use it for what little plowing I do on with MX5100. To reiterate earlier posts in heavy soil speed is beneficial. You could probably go to 2/16 with your 4400, but unless you are plowing a whole lot of ground it wouldn't be worth the cost of switching.

I haven't plowed in a while, but as per others, I find a good speed helps roll it over and makes for a better cover and better looking field.

I have a dearborn 2 bottom plow as well, mine is a 3pt type, my l4400 pulled it like an animal, but on ocasion it would hit a brick wall, then pull on thru. I was always on the fence about going bigger. I thought dearborn was an old jd product, mine still has green on it, and I bought it from a jd guy, unless he just painted it green confused now. I think the safe move is stay with the 2 bottom, but just my opinion, oh and my land is loaded with boulders so that dont help matters.

2x14" is as big as I'd go on that tractor. Just FYI, we pull a 3x16" behind a JD 2550, it is 65 PTO hp and about 10,000lbs fully ballasted. It gives that tractor a workout, I'd hate to see a plow that size on an L-series Kubota.

You will find a good selection of 2-3 bottom plows here Used IH Little Genius 2-12 Pull Plow, Needs No Hydraulics to Raise or Lower items in Sweetfarmequipment store on eBay! You want a plow that cuts a furrow about as wide as your rear tire. Ken Sweet
