1702 Yanmar
I have a 1702 Yanmar and recently bought a plow with 2 12" or 14" moldboards blades (depending on how you measure them) and 2 15" cutting wheels. I was told it may to heavy for the tractor. Is this true, should I not use it?

Well just my opinion, but 2x14 are too much, but then that depends on soil type, I have 26 hp 4wd and I had 2x14 on it and in sod it just makes the machine work to hard, and ground speed would just barely roll the furrow and alot of it was standing up, I get a much better job with 1x14 and I'm not overworking the machine. But for what it's worth here's the formula I was told 12"= 10hp/bottom, 14"= 15hp/bottom, 16"=20hp/bottom, 18'=25hp/bottom, it works in our area.

Look for a single bottom... 1-12.. perhaps a 1-14 in sandy soil that has seen some previous action.

A ford N with 27 pto hp and draft controll can pull a 2-14... the yanmar has no draft controll.. and is a few ponies shy...and don't weigh as much.

I use a single 18" plow on the back of an Oliver 550...around 42 H.P. to plow old sod fields here in upstate NY. Can stop it dead in it's tracks even in 2nd gear in tough spots! I'd try to find a single 12" for you. Easier to pull means you can plow faster and better. You may find you can even cover more ground per hour this way and not kill your tractor. Just my experience.....Mike
