what throttle setting

I was just wondering what throttle setting most people use when running their gas engine power tracs. I usually run mine (422) at half to three quarter except when mowing thick high grass or using the tiller , then it is three quarter to full. When using the light material bucket it is usually less than half.
I would like to hear from others and also Jack at Robin

I think most would say they run at full throttle all the time. In my case I usually run half throttle for most work with the exception of mowing and trencher (full). Soil condition plays a big part also.

I'm pretty much a half throttle ± man /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif unless I need the extra speed/torque that more throttle would give me. But with a postage stamp lot like mine (1/10 th acre), more speed would put me in the lake before I could say 'spit' /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But seriously, I warm it up at about 1/3 throttle in really cold weather, then use pretty high throttle settings, especially when doing FEL and mowing chores. I like to have all the power available all the time. Plus, I like the noise! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, for me, I run at the throttle setting that will perform the work I need to have done. Most of the time this is 1/2-3/4 throttle. Of course when I mow, I run at full throttle.

I know the MFG likes full throttle, but that's how I do it.

I run my 422 at full throtle to mow, 1/2 for FEL work, and 1/4 to !/2 for the mini hoe, that way if I get a hold of something hard I won't break anything.

Ernest, I've no experience at all with Robin engines, but being an old timer, I'm frequently a little surprised by "new" changes in engines. For one thing, I've always believed in slowing an engine to an idle before killing it. Well, my daughter has a Lawnboy mower with a Tecumseh engine that has no throttle; it runs the same speed all the time, right up until you kill it. And I recently bought a Toro ZTR withe a 14hp, single cylinder Briggs engine that does have a throttle. You push the throttle to the wide open position, then a detent, and you push it on past the detent to the "choke" position to start it, then back to the wide open position for operation. Now the thing I don't understand is the fact that you can pull the throttle back to a slower or idle position, but if you turn it off at idle, you get a loud "backfire". The manual says to kill it at full throttle and then it dies peacefully. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif So I'm not sure why they even have the throttle that will let it run slower.
