What tires for my CK2510?

R4 for everything but spacing on raised beds as said before. And times two on checking out the 2610 The three range transmission it has will be a real plus.

Except ONLY second gear and reverse are syncronized, not 1st and 3rd.; kind of a PITA.

So R4s, chains in winter if needed, slow and steady in the dirt would be the advice? Sounds pretty much like what I expected. Thanks everyone!

I don't think so. Any blocky threaded tire can wreck a lawn. Chains work terrifically on R3's because they ride proud on the tire and in their own right, R 3's are pretty good in the snow. In my opinion, they offer more traction in just about any situation than your smaller R4's.

He didn't even listen to one thing you said.
R4s = buyer's remorse.

R4s = buyer's remorse.

I get a grin out of listening to my BIL grumble about the rough ride on his R-4's. The same salesman (my brother) that sold him R-4's wanted me to buy them for my tractor. I'm so glad I stuck to my guns and stayed with Turfs

I'm shopping for a CK2610HST to do a lot of woods work on a sloped, heavily wooded property, where the ground is often slightly wet. I would be felling trees for firewood & making trails. Implements will be box blade, grapple & flail mower. I'll also be blowing snow on a sloping 400' gravel driveway.

The dealer is telling me to go with R4's for the puncture resistance. He says the turf tires would fill with snow & become slicks, plus they would get punctured by sticks in the woods.

I'm so confused about tires!

R-4's definitely have better puncture resistance than turfs. I had lots of that kind of trouble with my front turfs until I switched to a 6 ply tire. As far as turfs filling up with snow and becoming slicks...Lets just say that I haven't had that experience yet.

R-4's are already slicks as far as snow goes. There are threads on TBN here about owners grooving R-4's for more traction in snow.

Dealers seem to push R-4's. I really don't know why. The only time I would consider them is if I was working in sharp rocks and gravel on a daily basis.

Now there's a dealer who has no idea how snow tires work. It is the very essence of treads filling with snow that creates the traction . Snow on snow creates the friction for added grip. R4's are not so prone to be able to do this.
I've used R1's for woods work for as long as I've had tractors doing such (bout 35 yrs). My woods are coarse, rocky and filled with ground obstructions and with the exception of knocking off a tire stem or two, never punctured an R1.
Turf tires can be had with multiple plys beyond the four they usually come with. Chains strengthen any tire brought into the woods.

Imho, turfs with a set of chains are about as versatile a tire combination one can have. Leave the chains on until you cannot use them. One gets pretty efficient taking chains on and off after awhile. I seldom take mine off but when I do, it takes all of 5 minutes to get them back on. There are tricks to minimize time. The chains used on our log skidders weigh about 400 lbs. You aren't lifting these. You roll or "drive" them on and that's the same technique I have found most advantageous to put on tractor chains.

Get two link ladder chains if you decide to go with the turfs.
