2005 Bobcat S250 Highflow/turbo....looking to get a tractor sometime soon too
Hey all recently i cleared about 2 acres of land to build a new home. The issue i have is that there are tons of roots, branches, and a lot of grape vine left lying around and down in the ground in some areas. Any thoughts on how to clean up the ground. I know i can dozer it all to one area but i would rather take care of it and leave it. Some of the sizes of these branches, vines, and roots exceed recommendations for Brush hogging...I thought about a forestry attachment but they are crazy prices. Just curious if anyone else has dealt with this and what you may have done with success or failure. :scratchchin:

Thanks

You might see about getting someone in with a Harley Rake (or buying one to fit your tractor).
That will chop or windrow the trash to make it easier to get rid of.
Otherwise, I would look at a dozer with a root rake on it.

with you having a "skid steer" i would say open the old paper phone book, and look for machinery rental places in your area. it going to be a one time thing for some equipment, most likely not worth buying and then it just setting there, so rent what you need would by my suggestion for the skid steer.

Tractor Attachments And Skid Steer Attachments For Any Tractor Or Skid Steer = good spot for a newbie to look through what is available, along with videos of how to set stuff up, and then use it.

with 2 acres, your not talking a whole bunch of ground, and if you have larger roots in a few spots, it might be easier to rent say a mini ex (mini excavator) or backhoe for skid steer, to just dig out some of the root balls. or dig down some and just chain saw the roots off deeper. (just let the chain go into the dirt, even if it dulls the chain quicker and be done with it)

a middle buster/potate plow, might work, in cutting through and bring roots up to surface some what.

there be a good amount of "cleared tees out" and company that did it done left, but now i have all these roots and ruts that the company left, now what to do threads here on TBN.

most of the threads deal with a "tractor" you having a skid steer, i would imagine you have more options available as far as being able to rent something to attach to your skid steer.

i was thinking about the Harley Rake but was sure if it could take out large branches and roots. This is all mainly surface debris and i don't wanna make another pile of crap i have to deal with. So thats why i was curious about a forestry mulcher or something. But i would be very curious to see if a Harley rake would take care of this problem. i could afford to do that myself.?!

Perfect job for a root bucket/root grapple. The finer stuff can be picked up with a rake after the root grapple.

2 acres -- just get out there and pick and pile by hand then set fire to it. When I was a kid and new ground was cleared we picked everything up and put it in a wagon to be dumped in a pile. usually it was 40 acre parcels. then it would be disked and you pick up roots again. 2 acres is a half a days work
