What to park outside?

Definatly keep the tractor in ... as for the manure spreader. When your done use old motor oil and soak the wood floor, grandad and dad always did this and that darn floor stayed in very good shape.

For some reason I was worried about putting oil on the wood floor. Not sure why.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

My granddad did it. My dad did it. I do it. My son does it....We oil EVERY wooden hay rack, the manure spreader floor, and any other wood we can. Never had any problems, and I have a couple hay racks that have decks over 50 years old....Still usable....They sit outside all winter.

I'm more careful now days than the past. (Tree hugger around every turn...lol!) When I oil down a wagon (or whatever) I put it on a sheet of plastic, apply the oil, and let it sit for a day or two in order to allow any drips to fall on the plastic (rather than on the ground) I mix 3 parts used oil to 1 part diesel fuel. The diesel thins the mix a bit which seems to help with penetration AND drying.

I 3rd that. Tractor should stay dry! :thumbsup:

I 4th that....I have always been afraid to leave my tractor outside overnight because of the chance of mice chewing wires...& we all know how big a pain and expensive that can be...and sometimes I still have to leave my tractor out at my Farm for a few nights to avoid having to drive it back 5 miles everyday until I am finished..but 98% of the year it is inside.

Not much, if anything....MOST of my stuff gets shoved under a roof of some description if it isn't going to be used. And what IS used, it can be a bear to get a frozen tarp off of something in the dead of winter.

Ditto on tractor inside- everything else- outside. If you put say a 6' 4x4 across a 4' wide spreader, for instance, and secure the canvas tarp or metal roofing to the top of the 4x4 length there is room under the 4x height for condensation to escape. By adding waste oil, transmission fluid and differential/trans oil to the mix and spraying it all over the wood and metal gears etc. rust is abated and the whole enchilada is protected from the elements.
Wood rots due to it's being dead wood, unlike when it was a tree, where sap and moisture kept it alive. Adding oil and other deterrents to 'dry' rot are what works to keep it from turning to dust.

Hey this seems like an excellent idea! I've decided that a canvas tarp is going to be best since it is flexible and can cover the beaters as well.
