What to Plant on 3 Acres?

Just curious what the hay market is there? would it not be feasible to let a local hay farmer work it...
plant it in Bermuda or Fescue or something that would also be suitable for lawns down the road...

Hello everyone,

New to the forum. My wife and I just purchased 3 acres of land in Granbury, Tx. We will be building on the property in about 3-5years; but, we were wondering what to do in the meantime for grass. The previous owner had sudangrass on the property and it is currently bare. I dont necessarily want to plant lawn grass as Im sure it will get torn up as our house is built. Should we let Mother Nature do her thing and mow accordingly for now?

Weeds will dominate for 3 years then native grasses will gradually take over. If you would rather not be associated with mowing weeds for about 8 months each year just disk it a couple of times / season until you determine what you would like to do with it.

This is what I was expecting (but hoping it wouldn't) happen

An alternative could be disk and plant to wheat in about September or October and not harvest it but allow the seed to replant as a volunteer crop each year.
