What to use to tow?

Im going to have to disagree. I think you should have at least a 3/4 ton pickup to tow a 4000 machine with trailer. I have a b21 with a tandem axle 7000 gvw trailer. One brake axle. Think I'm going to put the second brake axle. I tow it with a 1ton Dodge diesel, and even in tow mode when going down steep grade hills, it takes some time to stop if you have a lead foot like myself. Someone else mentioned, to small of a truck is not always the way. Just my opinion but Id go 3/4 to 1 ton.

If you only have occasion towing needs, consider renting a Uhaul, Penske or other brand of moving truck. They have huge hitches for towing things. Makes a lot more sense to buy something more economical for your daily needs and to rent a truck when you need it. Farmers of old didn't have this flexibility. That got us into the mode of thinking we needed to buy something for what we occasionally did. Lots of truck rental places out there now.

Ask them what their towing abilities are for each size of truck. I'll bet even the smaller ones will tow quite a large trailer.

My 5 passenger hemi head Toyota Tacoma is a nice daily driver. Gets average of 28 mpg but will actually get 30 mpg on the highway at 85 mph. Think the hemi head makes it run more efficiently at speed to make up for the wind resistance. If I need a bigger truck for towing, I go to Uhaul, Penske or the like.
