I had a few hoses (5 to be exact) burn and after I replaced them I can't get the bucket to return after dumping. The fluid looks like red tranny fluid and I'm guessing type "F" ford but don't want to add anything until I know what I need to use. This is a 1979 Gehl 4500 and I finally found the owner/operator manual but haven't received it yet; mine is on back order.. I don't have anything showing on the dipstick and figure that is the source of my issues. I did find out one thing. Don't get a used skid steer on a hill without checking out the gas tank to see if it leaks.:ashamed: After mine stalled it leaked on top of the starter and when I cranked it I saw a pretty blaze as I bailed. Could have been serious but wasn't; just a big mess for me to repair.
Another question is do I have to bleed the tilt cylinder after I fill up the tank with fluid? I think it should force fluid thu and more or less bleed itself, am I correct. I'm an old car buff but new to this type of equipment. I did install all new hoses to replace those burned.
