What type of fitting?

This looks to be like some type of flare fitting but I am not sure...the forward hard line is leaking...

I think the loose bolts may have caused this line to drip (harder under pressure)...

I tried tightening the fitting but it seemed to have made it leak more...

Should I try backing it off and re-seating the fitting?

what does this fitting look like on the inside?

Anyone??

I am going to buy a 17MM line wrench tomorrow...before I tried tightening the fitting it appeared to be undisturbed (original paint etc...)

Those are inverted flare fittings. The nose of the fitting you normally see is machined into the casting and the flare on the tubing is behind that nut. If tightening does not correct the leak the flare on the tube is probably cracked or someone has tightened too mush and thinned out the flare. Disassemble and inspect is the only solution. If the tube length is critical you will need to make a new line. The best type flare is a double flare where the tube is folded back in a double layer. The tools are available, Harbor Freight even has one. If you have to have the tube replaced the hydraulic shop has the right tools. Automotive brake lines use a lot of these fittings.

Thanks for the reply...before I attempted anything the fitting did not appear to have been touched (original paint)...since I did not have a 17 MM line wrench I tightened it just a bit with an open end wrench (took the paint off)...the other line prevented me from getting perfect purchase on the nut...
