I'm looking into getting some pallet forks for my 1720 Ford. I am either going to just get the forks and build my own frame, or get the frame and forks together. What is the best style of attachment for the forks to have? I'm talking about shaft mount forks or hook mount forks. I could easier fab up the shaft mount type, but I'd have to secure the lower side of the fork so they didn't swivel if I were dumping logs off the fork or something similar. thanks, Nick.

I like the hook type. They have positive stops that keep the forks at set widths. I bought a set of forks on a frame and adapted them to my tractor. There are pics in my gallery.

I have the forks that mount on a steel shaft, probably 1-1/2" diameter, one for each fork. Advantage is you don't have to lift them to move side to side. Disadvantage is you have to raise the loader, dump the curl circuit about halfway, then you can slide sideways. So, your loader is up in the air and the pallet or whatever is on the ground, so you might get the spacing wrong. Still worth it to me who might have trouble lifting a 48" fork from one slot to the next.
As far as their swinging out on dump, I've designed but not built yet a pin type restraining bar to keep the swinging from happening. So far I just deal with it, but sometimes you need to restrain the forks.
