What type of hose for Diesel Fuel?

I didn't see it mentioned, but I would install a ball valve at the tank end of the hose, to prevent problems with hose leaks, or as was noted, dry rot. Or some marmot chewing on the hose for the salt your hands left last August. Unless you are using it every day, that ball valve is easy enough to open and close.

A ball valve with lockable handle to make it a little difficult for fuel thieves is pretty much SOP with overhead tanks. The fuel nozzles dont always do a complete seal especially after they get some age on them so you need a good positive shut off at the tank.
Also make sure that you tilt the tank at least a couple inches higher on the hose end so any water accumulation will settle in the opposite end. The same type valve on the other end with a threaded plug in it for positive seal will allow occassional drain and check for water. Just remove the threaded plug, open the valve and drain off a half gallon or so rapidly into a clear jug. Water will settle on the bottom and the clean fuel can be put back in your tank while discarding the last bit with the water in it.
