Found this pix on another website and think that the tires on this unit would
be lots better on my hilly terrain. Plus I just like that aggressive look!

I have R4s are the ones in the pix R1s? Anyone know how much a set would
cost?

TIA!

Believe those are ags.

Yep, R1, also known as ag tires. And they are better for traction. You'd want to check with your dealer, but if you change from R4 to R1 tires, you may also have to change the wheels.

TC-Dude, that is obviously my old Ford Powermaster in the background that I sold 2 months ago to an individual here in Arkansas. Is that picture from the Capital New Holland dealership in AR, just curious?

As Bird alluded to, your looking at a pricey change over. My Tractor (used) came with the wide turfs & I wanted R4's. When I inquired about a replacement, Dealership indicated $3,000. You will probably be able to get them for less than that but I would just recommend more weight. That's all I did.......but then I don't have hilly terrain to contend with.

The old girl is now in a dealership in Kentucky!?! Good tractor right there if someone up there should be looking for such, I just outgrew it. It had been my dad's since new in '59, dearly hope it finds a good owner, thanks TC29-Dude.

Sorry I can't help much on your tire dilemma but you should budget at least $2k for decent R1 radials and they do make a diff in slick, soft, or sloppy.

Those are R1 tires. They are for a different rim diameter and width than the R4s for the same tractor. You will need new rims as well as tires. You need to pay attention to the size differential front to rear if you make the switch.

They will grip better in dirt, soft stuff, etc. They will not load up with mud as easily as R4s. They will tear up your lawn in a hurry if you mow with them, especially in soft conditions. Be careful about ply ratings as some of the R1s have sidewals that are kind of flimsy for woods work and such. Go for the highest ply count and rating you can find if you will be in woods and rocks and such.

Do not get R2 or rice tires, which have even deeper lugs. They are for rice paddy work and will actually not work as well as R1s on normal ground.

I agree with the previous posters. I just want to add that R-1's goo forward in mud much better than in reverse :(. A couple of tractor operators in my area who use their tractors for mostly woods work reversed their front R-1's to improve traction in reverse. Jay

R1's do that because the angle of the lugs causes them to move the dirt as they slip. When powered, they should be mounted in the usual way. When being used as a driving wheel, such as on a ground driven manure spreader, they should be mounted "backwards". They will also last marginally longer on the front of a FWA tractor that is used in 2wd mode most of the time if they are mounted "backwards".
