2004 Kubota TLB B21, JD 440 2cyl dsl crawler dozer, Case 450
I have been doing a lot of reading here on TBN and I am starting to get a little less confused, Thanks you for that. Now it is time to by the hydraulic valve and hoses. By the way I have a Kubota B21 TLB and I purchased a Tatro grapple for my FEL.
The grapple came with a cylinder Model 218-298 from Surplus Center Pressure 2500 PSI Double acting 2 x 6 Ports 3/8 NPT
My Bota has PB I think because it has 7 lines on the FEL valve, one goes to the BH QD. Pump has 8.5 GPM (wow look at me talking in tractor code, I learned it all right here on TBN)
So now it is time to spend money so my questions are:
1. What valve should I buy from SC? I think I need 1 spool, DA, with PB. I can not find it with PB to go to the BH. What about the port sizes on the new valve?
2. What about the hoses. Can I buy cut to length readymade hoses that just fit together. I don稚 really understand the fitting language 45 deg 37 deg, to flare, not to flare, QD sizes.
For the hose routing I think I understand that I need to
1. 典 into the existing return line for the new valve
2. Take the existing PB port from FEL valve to supply pressure to the new valve (needs a new short hose with fittings)
3. Take PB from the new valve to the existing BH line that was removed from the FEL valve PB port
I want to (I think) run two 66 hoses from the new valve to the FEL with QD on the FEL end. Clamp these down permanently. Next run 2 new hoses (approx 5? from the new QD痴 on the FEL to the grapple cylinder. That way I can remove the grapple and attach something else later.
Is my plan OK? Sorry for the long post, just a lot to know. Thanks

Welcome to TBN:D
I will try to answer some questions for you:

#1. This valve will work from the SurplusCenter, port sizes are what they are-you will probably need adapters to get them down to your hose size.

#2. Yes, you can buy hoses locally they sized you need. I suggest getting the valve mounted, then measure for hoses with a piece of garden hose and tape to mark it. Once the length is determined straighten it out and measure it. Take the measurements to a local hose shop.
As for fitting types, you will have to learn what you need-The three type you will probably run into are JIC, NPT, and ORB. DHH has some good references on their site.

Your plumbing description sounds OK...

kennyd, thanks for the info and links. I see the valve looks good and I will buy the PB sleeve to go with it. I saw on SC, and almost bought a 9Sv-1-Y-B not sure what the differance is except the cost.
In my surch for hoses I saw on SC ready mades from short to long part number example # 903-3836 for a 3/8" x 36" long 3000 PSI. They have male fittings both ends and they are only about $10 - $15 each.
Are these any good? I need 7 assorted lengths.

I was looking for fittings and SC has a bunch to fit the hoses NPT including QD for cheap.
The fittings I can not find are the ones i want to weld or braze on after splitting the 1/2" steel lines that come with the Kubota. I need a "T" for the return line and 2 90 deg els for the PB The steel lines on the kubota measure about 1/2" OD. Is that metric? Is there a proper name for the weld on fittings?
Thanks,:)

That is a "stack" valve. You basically buy the individual parts depending on options to build the valve you want. There are real nice in the fact that you can add to them in the future if you need another spool.

That's fine if they have the length and fittings you need...just make sure they are 2-wire hoses for durability.

I thought your FEL valve was fed buy hoses?

I think I can make the hoses work fine if i get the fittings figured out. the hoses come in either 3000 psi or 4000 psi. i was going to go with the 3000 psi because they would be more flexable. the 3000 is single wire with 12000 psi burst. the 4000 cost is only slightly more. I'll go with 2 wire, thanks

the B21 has a combination of both steel lines and flex hose. the lines that go back to the pump, PB and return enter the valve as steel. I was thinking i could just cut the PB and return lines, tap into them with fittings and at that point convert to flex hose to the new valve.. (I'll get a picture)

Another question came up. If i measure the OD of the steel lines at .5" does that make them 3/8" lines ID? so If I buy 3/8" hose with 3/8" fittings is the ID of the fittings still 3/8"? I am confused about the wall thickness. does 3/8 really measure 1/2" or more OD and what NPT would that be on the valve?

I understand now...

Here is a link that may help: Hydraulic Store They have tubing and also fittings that do not require welding/brazing: Flareless 7000 series, also do a Google search for "swagelok" fittings, they offer both types also.

I would use 3/8" hose for you PB loop to feed the new valve, but 1/4" hoses from the valve to the QD's up front will be adequate. Also, a local hydraulic shop can prove to be invaluable during a project like this-look in the phone book under "hydraulics"

pictures of steel lines

one picture is the valve. the upper fittings go to the FEL they are hose. the lower lines are steel. The other picture is the lines crossing the frame. This is where i want to cut the lines and weld in the fittings to connect the hoses.

On one post I found here on TBN, another guy had the same problem finding weld on fittings. someone suggested buying compression fittings and not using the nut just push the line into the fitting and weld it. But i am trying to get this figured out before I start cutting up my tractor..

i did go to the local hydraullic house and got a little disappointed. the guy said the only way he could help me was to bring the tractor in. That would mean truck and trailer and all day. I was surprised he had no knowledge or books on Kubota. no estimate of cost or idea if he had the right parts is stock. The only way around that for me is to learn first and buy later.
