Just thought I'd put this one out there for all the yellow and green people like myself. It was a Christmas gift for my youngest son who loves my tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mine was a 4020 diesel tractor. It's kind of fun now that I have gotten to operate the real thing.

I still have my 4020. It is at least 25 years old. Between my brother and I we had every piece of equipment needed to run a successful carpet farming operation. My first real Deere was an 855.

My first toy Deere was a 3020 row crop. Then a 5020, a 7520, 2030. There was a 4020 wf in there somewhere as well and a whole slew of equipment.

Starting running my Dad's 110 GT when I was 6 or 7. Started running the 2520 when I was 10. Drove the new 4230 home from the dealership around 1977 and was the last family member to drive it before we sold it in 2002.

I think my favorites are the 2520 and a 212GT we had when I was a teenager. Both timeless machines and very good examples of the best John Deere ever built.

I definitely have green in my blood!

FWIW - I still have all of my "mini green machines" and my son plays with them now. Can't see parting with them, ever!

A JD bike....how original. My first Deere was a 318 garden tractor with the 50 inch deck and 54 inch front blade. Even with all the rust and faded paint and leaks it now has, I am just as attached to it as I am my nearly new JD...maybe more so becuz it's been paid off for ten years.

My "full size" 4400 was first, then a 388 lawn, then a 4020 toy (Christmas gift from my daughter), then another 4400 (long story), then a 4600, and now a 4710-- all in 7 years! Guess I'm hooked /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif and love it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A 1973 5 speed bicycle, painted white. Dad was good friends with the local JD dealer, and came home with a matching pair for my brother and me. Also. spend a lot of time on his JDX4 snowmobile.
I guess that makes my first JD experiences a little different than most. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In 75, I was working for a farmer who knew I was looking for a small tractor to do work on our 1 acre yard. He found an auction flier for a 49 JD M that was located about 4 hours away from us. Told me he had one earlier and it was a great tractor.

I went to the auction, bought the unit (tractor, 1 x 16 rollover plow, sickle mower, and cultivator) for about $750. It was rusty enough, it looked like an IH! Started ok at the auction, so I figured it was good.

The farmer I worked for let me use one of his trucks to haul it home in exchange for mowing around his pond with this unit. Many hours of wire brushing, a gallon of green/yellow paint, and some decals, it looked great. Needed a new wire harness as the old one was frayed big time.

I owned/used it for 15 years, and sold it for about $2000.

Over my life, I've drooled over owning a 4020 with FEL, but I have no need for one. To me they were the finest tractor ever built.

I'm an orange guy now, with a BX2200 and FEL. Reminds me a lot of the 4020, except for the size and color.............

Happy New year.

Mine was a 185. Its had a few new parts over the years but its been a real workhorse. One of the reasons for the 4310 was to help preserve the 185 and give it a well deserved rest from doing things it was never meant to do.

What was my first Deere? I've posted before, but it was a 1940 (according to the guy Dad bought it from in 1951 or '52) L model.
