Roughly to add a hydraulic top link to my JD790? about how much should a rear remote installed by the dealer cost? I am pretty handy if there is a reference manual or something showeing how to do it.

Thanks

Hondo

Hondo,
I have no clue what your JD dealer will charge you.
There are tons of threads about doing doing it yourself though. While you're at it, get at least a 2 or 3 spool valve instead of just a one spool. That way you'll have extra remotes for other hydraulic implements or for hydraulic side links or something. The cost of the valve is not that much more nor are the extra hoses once you start plumbing it into the system.

Cost to do it yourself would be about (approximately)
$150 for the valve (cheaper for a 2 spool and cheaper for a single spool yet)
$100 for the hoses and fittings to connect into your system
$100 for quick disconnects and hoses coming from the new valve.
Add the cost of the top link to that depending on whether you buy one from CCM CCM Top Links or make one yourself.
I would also plumb a pressure guage in there for about $16 too.
If you're handy, you can make your own bulkhead bracket for the QD's
So all it takes is your time to do it on weekends.
Compare that to what the dealer wants to install.

Hey Hondo, Keep this thread going as I have a 790 also and really would like to have a hydro top link. I'd be fearful of going to a JD dealer for much work. Around here they are always busy and like auto dealers I think they depend on the income from the shop to keep the profits up. From other posts it seems like CCM is the place for pieces parts and info.

I remember a thread from a TBN member about JD's remote kit some time back saying his dealer wanted $800 to install it on his tractor ( don't remember what model) but I don't recall him saying how much the kit was. I would hate to even guess what JD would want for a control valve, QD's, fittings, hoses and brackets but would think it would be more than the labor cost.

The NH guys were discussing rear remotes for a TC 29 awhile back and they ranged between $750-$1500 for factory kit and install (don't know how NH and JD parts/labor compare though).

Rob has the right idea, buy the parts from Discount Hydraulics or other supplier and save some big money. It should be a pretty straight forward job to do the install yourself.

Here's the triple remote setup that the dealer installed on my new Mahindra 5525. Cost: $750 parts and labor.

flusher,
That is a very nice factory set up.
I really like your Mahindra too.

Not only that, you will learn some invaluable information about your hydraulic system and be much more aware of what makes it tick. It will be worth it.
