After years of being a competition motocross and trials rider i gave in to the attraction of the cheap chinese kids quads....the bike has actually been very good and the service has been fine But.....?

My 8 year old saved up and payed $90 for his own helmet from the same "Dealer".....Very mainstream american brand..And first opening of the box a piece was broken...without any foul play..!
Contacted dealer and they say no warranty on helmets...and flatly refused to even replace the broken part..which is available for $17.50????? When i phone the distributor of this brand in canada they say there is a 2 year warranty and the guy i bought from is not a registered outlet but has a traceable 5 year history as a bike dealer and say that to be selling this brand of helmet he must be illegal in some way because it's the current new line and want me to give him the details of the dealer..???
.....The distributor called me today and wants to get revenue canada and trading standards involved as i'm not alone apparently....Opened a can of worms here..????

If I understand the situation correctly, it sound like the "dealer" is a "bootleg dealer" and that is why he will not honor the warranty.

Sic the "law" on him. If he is legit they will find out.

Let the worms out.:D

Maybe there stolen ,rejects or knock-offs?
I don't think you want your son riding around with a questionable helmet.

Give the distributor the info he wants. If the dealer is selling sub-par safety apparatus I wouldn't think you would want to allow him to continue. I also would not let my boy use that helmet unless I was very sure that it passed all the necessary manufacturer inspections and was indeed a "good" product out of the factory.

Personally I would tell them that if they would ship me a new helmet;) that I would send the broken one to them(so they could tell if it was a "knockoff") and I would give them all the info they wanted.

You did right, for you might save someone a lot of hurt.

He must have a grey market connection that bypasses the legitimate distributor and Revenue Canada, or could be a knock off. You can't be too careful w/ a helmet. Rat on him...

Id do what CHH said.

See if you can make a deal for your info. Tell the distributor that your not sure if the helmet you bought was legit. The guy sounds like a scam. The product may be counterfeit. And could very well be if it was damaged that easily. A good helmet is pretty much all you have between your head and the ground, so you got to have faith in it.

The dealer won't be in trouble if he is doing the right thing, its not up to you to protect him.

But like others have said, make sure you get a helmet one way or another :D

....I was holding back because the bike needed some work on the brakes and the carb needed adjusting....I got nothing he says brakes and carb are not "powertrain" issues and offered to glue my kids helmet..Even charged me for a throttle cable......On a 3 month old bike..?

Enough is enough...I had a heated arguement with him in front of a packed shop making sure all the customers heard it,All my connections in the motorcycle world have been informed and i have reported it to revenue canada and trading standards...It may not be a lot of money and i don't like doing this but these idiots cannot be allowed to continue..How do they continue to trade...?. ...i tried to be reasonable..?
I'm sure they'd like to know about the 16 year old kids that are his "mechanics" too..?
