Would you try to weld this or take it to a pro? It is a crack in the hydraulic tank/ axle of a log splitter. I do have a wire welder, but unsure of my skills. Tank is filled with atf
/dextron 3. A replacement tank unit is no longer available.

Before anyone welds it you need to drain the fluid and flush with something to get the remaining oil and fumes out. Yes I would weld it but I was a pro, but if you can put down a pretty bead you should have no problem. Ed

Looks like it broke right in a junction with a stiffener? If possible, I would drill a hole at each end of the crack. Sand all the paint off. And as Ed says flush the tank, then to make sure I would heat the repair zone to try and boil the oil out of the crack. Let cool, then make the weld.

Everyones skills are different.

I would have no issue welding it.

If you arent confident in your abilities, take it to a pro. If you try and fail, it will cost you more for a pro having to undo your mistakes.

If it is not leaking I would grind the weld out and just re weld it. Talk the cap off the tank so.If it is a bit oily most shops would drain the tank.Grind it out maybe burn some of the oil out with a torch and then run a pass of 6010 in the crack, followed with a cover pass of 7018.Stick rod puts up with oil and dirt better. If there is no oil present your wire feeder will be just fine.
