What\'s a fair price on a 6000 4x4?

What would be a fair price toay on a 6000 4x4 with loader?
How much is fair on quick attach plate and bale spear? $23200 too much?
If so tell me where I can buy cheaper.
I'm in KY, but will make a trip to save money!

Couple of questions?? Are you planning on paying cash or financing?? When I bought my 6000 with MDL 264 FEL, I did a bunch of checkin' around the country. There was a place in Texas that was about $21.7K for the tractor/FEL (this was back in the early spring, so not sure if there has been a price increase since then; I think there has been though). I think that the MSRP at the time was about $23K. The price you have been quoted seems fair based on that. I would also suggest that you will want a dealer somewhat closer than Texas though. If you go with the quoted price, make sure the dealer throws in the 50 hr service maintenance and he comes to your place to do it or he takes the tractor back to his at his cost. Just a thought from a guy who really appreciates the 6000. By the way I priced green against the 6000 on the Deere price thingy and the same "stuff" would have been over $35K.

You're right about the dealer. I can pay cash, but thought about financing since it is 0%. I mean, put 75% of the purchase price in even a passbook savings for a year and it's free money. So I did fill out the application for financing, but I can pay cash. I also neglected to mention I'm trading in my MF 135 and he's giving me $3700 for it. I think that's fair since I only paid $4000 for it last year. I will also be purchasing a new Vermeer Rebel round baler and a new disc mower from him too though. And there again he is giving me $500 trade in on an old Ford sqaure baler and $1500 on a Superior sickle mower I bought last year. I geuss it's really hard to gauge how good or bad a deal I am getting without being here to see. I just wondered how close he was to MSRP on the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'll be in the hay buisness next year!

Whoaaa! You really are gonna be in the hay business! Based on your new info, I'd almost say "Keep the MF 135 as well!" Especially if it runs good and doesn't cost a bunch of time/effort to keep it working. With all the equipment you're getting you're gonna need another tractor anyway. I hope you have some extra "hands" around, if nothing else to help you change implements. Since you can afford to pay cash, I'd keep the MF! Also, I'd come up with a package price for everything and make him an offer. Sound like a lot of cash being passed around. Let us know what you decide to do. BobG in VA

Re: What\'s a fair price on a 6000 4x4?

One more note: Have the dealer throw in loaded rear tires on whatever you get. With the FEL, it will give you about 1200-1400 more lbs in the rear where you need it. I can't put enough in that 78" bucket to make the rear feel light (I've tried). With loaded tires and an FEL the 6000 or the 6500 will weigh in the 9000 to 10,000 lbs range. This will also pay dividends when you are baling and getting up round bales. One other thing: Are you in horse country?? If so you may want to keep that Ford Baler as well. If its in decent shape horse folks wouldn't want round anyway. Especially if they hire you on to bale their hay (you don't have to pick it up as you charge per bale out the rear and its their problem from there). Just a thought. BobG in VA

Re: What\'s a fair price on a 6000 4x4?

The Ford baler is only one of two I own so I'm still gonna sqaure some horse hay. I'm keeping my old 53 Ford Jubilee to rake and fluff with. I can't justify keeping two other tractors. I think if I get the tax break I believe I will I'm gonna go with a 4500 4X4 in a couple years anyway. Then I'll trade the old Ford. There are a couple of guys here I ride horses with that are supposed to help me in the hay. Right now we put up about 7-8000 sqaures a year and looking at adding more so we're gonna have to start round rolling at some point. All the barns we have will only hold about 4000 sqaures. So it's either roll or build another barn. The wife thinks we should be looking at improving the qaulity of our hay and raising the price while continuing to sqaure bale. She also wants to start up a pumpkin patch with a corn maze and horse back and hay rides. Selling crafts and maybe horse tack. So who will win out I don't know, but there is $40k sitting in a bank account now til we decide. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: What\'s a fair price on a 6000 4x4?

I'd like to have all your decisions!! Sounds like you're set. I'm getting ready to buy out my 2 brothers on a 34 acre parcel we own in the county (central VA) I was raised in. Hope to move back with the 6000 and the '57 Farmall in a few years after I retire. My wife will have about 4 years to go till she can retire after me. Gives me a chance to do some "work' down there getting ready to build our retirement home. Anyway, you don't need my advice as it sounds like you got it licked!! Have a good one and let us all know what happens. BobG in VA
