Re:health care reference (RANT off)

Wingnut,
Thanks for the reply, apology, and clarification. I thought that was kind of harsh coming from you but explaining it a little more I see what your point was now. I am very sorry about what happened to your wife. You are so right about a few giving the whole a black eye. As far as salary it always amazes me the amount of money people "think" doctors make. Again you were truly gracious in your reply and it was very much appreciated.

Re:health care reference (RANT ON)

Richard, I tend to agree with just about everything Wingnut said, and SOME doctors, as well as others in the medical profession, ARE making obscene profits. And I think doctors had as much to do with creating the mess we're in as anyone else. HOWEVER, we all tend to generalize (if that's the right word), based on our experiences, when we logically know that such does not apply to everyone. Naturally, you (and other doctors) have a little different viewpoint than most of the rest of us.

To try to give you an example of what I'm talking about for a different profession. I spent a lot of years in law enforcement, and a number of Supreme Court decisions placed a lot of restrictions on police officers, such as Miranda and many others. Now, many officers blamed "liberal" courts for these restrictions (just as you now blame the insurance industry - and lawyers). But if you really study law and the court decisions, you'll find that in most of the cases, they were the result of some dumb cop doing something stupid - or even crooked, and it resulted in restrictions on all officers. Well, I'm convinced there were enough crooked doctors who gouged insurance companies that now it's tough on all doctors, and their patients.

And hopefully, we're smart enough to not believe all doctors are crooks, that most are good honest folks, just as I know that most cops are good honest folks, trying to do a good job; although I've known people (including one of my grandfathers) who were convinced that all cops are crooked.

Unfortunately, there's enough blame to go around, but instead of worrying about who's to blame, what can we do to correct the problem? And I wish I had the answer, but I don't.

Re:health care reference (RANT off)

Richard,
you had asked about the "little guys" ... all the horses are just fine (and back in the barn at night due to the icy conditions here ... the "mother hen" worries about them slipping and hurting themselves). I'll even try and post some pics along with this ... you can get an idea of how small these critters are by looking at the barn in the nackground. Sorry for the contrast ... lousy day for this mickey-mouse camera and my software for the digital vidcam is acting up ... so these'll have to do for now until I find some debugging time.

Re:health care to horses

These are the littlest guys ... the barn backdrop will give you a size indication ... the barn sliding door is just over 7 feet.
Mama's the tri-color ... the little guy with her is the "baby" that was sick before Christmas ... the black in the background is the pround little daddy. He's about 28", mama's about 22" and the little on'es about 19". One of these days, I'll have to take the measuring stick out there. The little guy was 151 lbs when he left the hospital.

Re:health care reference (RANT off)

Wingnut,
Yes I know all about the little fellers, we have had a few of them and have one now. I bought them when my girls were small so that they could learn all about horses without getting hurt when they were really young and build up their confidence. They are great pets for the most part and don't eat nearly as much as the big ones!!!

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Yeah Harv, I've been hoping for a little of that Rolling blackout stuff , but nothing, full power. All the hype and still I get lots "O" power. Was hoping for some excitement.
Someone mentioned a 1000 megawatts as though that was some huge amount for a state this size. I think the folks in Washington and Oregon are a little out of touch with the enormities of this state. Shoot, little ol Rancho Seco pumped out 750 megawatts in its hay day. Oh well, I live in an 900 sq. ft. home and just can't use much electricity. I assume you and RobertN both draw off the infamous PG&E. Best of electron potential to you, Rat from Newcastle...

Re: What\'s going on in California?

The editorial cartoon in our local newspaper yesterday had:

Q.: How many Californians does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A. Eight....one to hold the bulb in place, seven to pray the power stays on....
