what\'s in a name?

I have been reading and browsing this forum for about half a year now. It has been great. I have learned a lot in that short time. The question that I have for all of you is which of you have given names to your tractors. I have a good idea that there are a few of you that do. I have given names to all of my equipment and vehicles. My tractor's name is Marge and my motorcycle's name is Louise. You know that we wait for the delivery day and then we call them our new baby but who out there actually gives their tractor a name.

Interesting...

When younger I used to talk to my motorcycle all the time...and she served me well...at the end I rode it 14,000 miles from Pittsburgh to Bangkok, Thailand...(boat from Norfolk to Spain)...but she never had a name...except maybe an unwritten and unspoken one...."old reliable"...BMW... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My tractors too...they are my work horses and I spend a lot of time with them. Not sure if I talk to them though...no names either...

Great post! My wife is convinced that TBN is all about macho guys and their CI (Cylinder Index)/CPI (Cylinder Possession Index). We all participate in TBN so we can brag about the size of our.... tractors, backhoes, FEL, etc, etc. Mathteacher, your post shows that we have a softer side, a nurturing side, and might I say...in touch with our feminine side. No that's going to far. Let's leave it at softer side.

To answer your question...my tractors don't have names. When I send one of my boys to go get one, I use terms like...get the new tractor (2003 Kubota L3430), lawn tractor (Kubota F2230), 620 (Allis Chalmers 620 Tractor), D14, '45 and WC.

However, I mowed about 3 acres of canary/brome grass today and every time the mower plugged up, I did come up with new names for my D14. Unfortunately "not fit for publication" here at TBN and probably not what you were looking for.

Whew! I have a pretty tight filter on my computer (18 year old boy at home). The above statement just got through. Some how I think my wife wouldn't understand.

Great Post! Call my old 1963 Ford 4000 Gertie! Have to talk to her all time when using her, figure she is the only one that can hear me with all the noise she makes!

We've nicknamed our L2800 "The Great Pumpkin", because at night you can see an orange glow out in the yard through the dining room window. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Most of the time, though, when Daddy goes outside with that serious look on his face it's just "the tractor". Our "JD" STX38 has been demoted to "the lawnmower". /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
