What's the best bait for armadillos?

Had some visitors last night that I am guessing was a family of armadillos. I have a live trap but never had any luck with it. Any suggestions on what to bait it with to catch armadillos?

Cheap honey buns have caught all kind of critters in our live trap, not sure about those dillos though.

Dillos are hard to trap. Better approach is to eliminate their food source, grubs. Put out some grub bait. It will take a couple of weeks but the dillos will go to the neighbors...

Alternative is some fun with a .22. At one time my wife was very effective with this approach when we lived in the country. Now that we are in town, she uses grub bait. I did kill one a couple of years ago with a pellet gun.

Living in Canada, we don't have Armadillo's here, Not really familiar with them but I do think they are kind of neat, didn't realize they did much damage,, Of all the pictures I've seen of them I'm thinking beer is the best resource for them, as most of the pics I've seen are of an armadillo laying on it's back with a bottle of beer in it's mouth.. So wouldn't that work? Leave out some good beers, and let them drink until they pass out then just collect them up, and of course put them into a 12 step program...........

I caught one in a live trap once. He tore the cage apart and got out. I had to wire it and reinforce it to keep the dillo from bending it all up but I never caught him again. I guess they are smarter than they look. He had dug under my fence and was coming in and out. Put the cage back but he just dug a new hole. Every time I blocked up the old hole and put the camouflaged trap next to the new one, he just dug a new hole. Finally I saw 2 or 3 roadkill and no more problem with dillo's.
I even tried setting out at night but no luck because I didn't know what time they were coming in. My game camera never captured him or time so I just gave up and luckily the highway did the trick.

I never realized they could tear up a place like that. That looks exactly like what the wild turkeys can do to your yard around here.

You can't bait armadillos. You can usually find a trail where they have been using the same path over and over. Put a live trap on the path and take two long 2X6s and stake them like a funnel or V leading into the trap. The armadillo will not cross over the 2X6, he will just follow it right into the trap.

Check the trap often because with enough time he will damage the trap and get out.

Ground hogs will go in a trap for apples,,,,

Most say a ground hog is hard to trap,,, I have been pretty lucky!! :thumbsup:
