A bigger stronger hoe from brand X won't seem so sweet if your purdy green 790 gets broke in half. I know, they all say they guarantee it to work. But the #7 is the safe bet. It does a great job.

Re: What\'s the best Hoe for the buck ???

I'm going to agree with Mike. I have a 790 with the #7 hoe. You might pay a bit more up front but the on-going convenience offsets that cost in my opinion. The #7 is a subframe hoe that has hefty brackets to attach the hoe to the tractor in five places and it uses the tractor hydraulics.

There are plenty of three point mount backhoes available. They use the standard three point mounting and usually a PTO driven pump.

For me the big value is in the mounting. It's solid but also goes on and off very easily. I don't use my backhoe nearly as much as other implements so it's on and off nearly every time I use it. If it were a pain, I'm sure I would regret buying it but the JD quick attach systems are first rate /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had a 7 hoe on my 790 when I had it and I may have been just lucky, But that thing was an animal for its size!!! It actually had more breakout force than my 448 has now.

Re: What\'s the best Hoe for the buck ???

I had a 7 hoe on my JD 750 when I lived in VA. That was the best set-up ever. I dug footings, post holes and even jury rigged a lifting device to lift rafters for my pole barn. When I moved back to CA, I was torn to sell it or have it shipped. I opted to sell it but regretted it ever since.
