What's the Difference? John Deere 2x50 vs. 2x55

I'm in the market for a John Deere 2x5x tractor and would like to know what the 2x55 series has that the 2x50 doesn't.

Most of the 2x55 gained HP over previous 2x50. 2255 lost HP, but it came with a smaller engine than the previous 2250. John Deere my have made major changes in a different series such as 4x55 and all models would get renumbered. Check TractorData.com

I think the 2x50/2x55 were some of the best made JDs. You can't go wrong with either. When I bought 2030 (over 20 years ago) I wish I could have afforded a 2x50/2x55 series.

You can make a quick comparison on tractordata.com. Some of the models were up a few hp with the 55 series though. Some might have different choice of transmission options. Really think they are close in comparison imo.

Cab or open station? Open station 55 series utility tractor had gearshift lever closer to dash & pto lever in dash for easier entry/exit of seat. It appears from viewing Tractordata that 50 & 55 series share the same size engine(3.9L) but 55 series has more HP.
