2002 Numbers - from California Energy Commision

State taxes on a gallon of gas, for the three states with prices listed at the time of this post.

Oregon $0.24
Colorado $0.22
Oaklahoma $0.17

For other states, see the link above. State taxes range from $0.351 (Hawaii) to $0.08 (Alaska) a gallon. The prices above do not reflect the Federal Tax of $0.184 per gallon (again, 2002 prices).

In Illinois (outside Chicago) $2.09 for regular and $2.24 for high test at the two stations I passed on the way home from work where I happened to notice. It's getting pretty bad up here. It's cheaper a few miles west out of the Chicago area though.

Okeechobee, FL (different county taxes), Regular 1.829.

With a Walmart Merchandise Card, at the Murphy Oil stations outside Walmart, $.03/gal cheaper. We put $150 on each card at a time. They get the use of our money until we use it. But, we can't earn as much interest as they are giving us in the discount, so it's a Win-Win.
