I would say a 6000 would be in that category. I used to have one and loved it. I think they may have changed them to 6025 now but still worth a look.

The 6500 has 57 pto hp

The 6520 has 55 pto hp

These are some good tractors, the 6520 is a little more on the deluxe end.

Good luck with you search.

tedder,
If you are looking for a 2WD tractor the Mahindra 6025 is only 49 HP but it is about 800 lbs heavier than the jd5303, the other option would be the 6500 2WD, which is a real close match to the JD. In 4WD the 6500, 6530, and the 6520. These tractors are all a good bit heavier than thier JD counterpart, but that should be a good thing. These 4WD's also are shuttle shift transmissions which is optional on the JD. Check them out at mahindrausa.com, and have fun tractor shopping.

Tedder,
The JD 5303 has a three cylinder engine. All the Mahindra tractors near that horsepower (mentioned in the posts above) are four cylinder engines.

What I like about the 00 series tractors is how simple they are. Easy to work on and easy to diagnose. If you're looking for a no frills work horse check out the 00 series 4wd.
I have the 6000 4wd and have done some quite hefty chores for a 60 hp tractor!

I was leaning towards the 6500 with 4wd. Does anyone have idea what I should expect to pay for one with loader? Just want to have some idea before I visit the dealer. Thanks for all the input.

Hi
Like Brandi says the Deere 5303 engine is a 3 cylinder. It has about 15% less power than the 6500. If your need a 4wd, get the 6500. I have one and it performs well. A good price with skid steer loader (I ordered the skid steer bucket from the dealer and forks and later a root rake - all skid steer) would be around $25 k plus or minus. Some dealers throw in this or that. I would pay a little extra if needed to make the deal with a dealer with a jam-up service department (I did this). Both the JD 5303 and Mah 6500 are made in India. The 6500 is also a much heaver and stouter tractor (look at the loader mountings, rear 3 pont hitch and axles). I was a Deere person before I bought Mahindra. I almost bought a 25 series Deere last year.

My input.

Michelle
