Fertilized and sprigged three weeks or so ago. There are broadleaf weeds coming up all over with one large approx 1/4 acre spot having a pretty good patch.

I was reading the 2-4,D label and it says not to spray until the hay has been cut a time or two.

Should I spot spray the weeds with 2-4,d or just let it all grow or....?

After I sprigged last year, I was told by the Ag extension service that I could spray with a 1 or 1.5 pint/acre rate after the sprigs had runners 4" to 6" long. I ended up not spraying and brushhoged them down a couple of times.

Did your sprigs come in ok with just the brush hogging?

No thoughts on this from the braintrust?
Attached is a new pic. This is one month after sprigging.

I'd give my local extension agent a call and ask for his advice.

I'm assuming you sprigged bermuda so, personally, I'd be a little reluctant to hit it too hard with 2-4-D this early. If you have the time and energy, mowing it highish and often can usually take care of a lot of the weed problem. At least it might buy you some time until later in the year when you can go get mad with the sprayer.

Warhammer, that patch actually looks pretty good. I'd do like Frank recommended and hit with a high brush hog. I've done this for a few years when spraying wasn't in the plan. I will say that if you end up with arrowleaf clover cutting high seems to only make it worse. I'd hold off on spraying but that's just me. I wouldn't consider my opinion part of that "braintrust"

Yes they did. There where some weeds, but it kept most of the competion down.

After I sprigged Tifton 85, I was told by the grower to hit it with 4pts per acre of Grazon P+D. It did fine. 2-4-D doesn't hurt bermuda grass. On a related subject...Has anyone used Grazon Next? I used it this year and haven't decided yet if it's as good.

Its amazing how fast it grows. The difference in time between the two pics I have posted is a week and it looks like its about doubled.
