We have an older 24 ton wood splitter that looks really close to this: Amazon.com: 24-Ton Log Splitter with 9 HP Honda Engine: Home Improvement

The one we have is setup like that where it's on a small frame with wheels, it's horizontal (not sure if it can be tilted vertical) and it has a 8HP Briggs engine on it. The splitter itself works well but I think the engine needs to be tuned up. It's rarely used.

Anyway, before I put it on ebay or something, I have no idea what a fair price is. What do you think? Assume that it works but may need a good tune up on the engine. What would your thoughts be on the asking price?

There isn't much consistency on used equipment pricing. I would look to see what's available in your area for other used splitters (ebay, CL, etc).

Most of what I've found locally is $750-900 apparently regardless of size or age. Also $500 or so for a three point style (no engine).

I live in Indiana just a few miles from the border. You should get $550 for it unless some idiots get in a bidding war and it sells for more than a new one. Right now my TSC has 10% off anything over $100 so it makes that splitter $899 new. The one in the picture has a Honda so its in a completely different league than a BS powered unit and worth $300 more.

Thanks. I'll do some checking and see if I can find anything similar for sale. Just need some ballpark figure to start with. We're not too concerned with making a killing off of it, just not giving it away for nothing and then learning later it was really worth a lot more.

I would start the auction at $300 to get folks hooked then set a $550 reserve price. I have a feeling you will get closer to $700 using EBAY because of the IDIOTS on there. I just sold some stuff for more than you can go to Walmart and get it new. Its like a gambling addition. They just cant stop bidding.

I agree with D.P., its worth around $500, maybe a little more if you get it running good and if it goes vertical also. Usually the bigger splitters go vertical.
