Actually it is the lockout for the compound gear. Lift it up to put the shifter into Compound or "C".

Let me back out just a little bit and show you the dipstick, I don't think there would be 2. Also I don't think you would have a dipstick that you have to remove 2 screws to remove it:confused:

Buck, you posted the answer while I was posting another picture.

What does the compound gear do?

It lets you shift into super low, (creeper), range, which is of no use, whatsoever.

Primary use is tilling new ground but is also a good way to see all four seasons while driving from the barn to the field.

I tried it and Man, is that sucker slow in that gear. I've owned this tractor about 6 months and didn't know it had that gear.

I have this creeper gear & man it's sloooow. How do I get the grin face in my post ?This new format is going to take me some time

Creeper gear can be useful, like EFC posted for tilling new ground. It can also be useful if you are doing something which requires precision, like setting 800-1000lb stones or material. Also good for racing the Summer Sun from high-noon to sunset! :)

I stand corrected!!!! I use my creeper gear alot when tilling. It really makes a fine powder if you go that slow. It is not all that slow in Power shift 3. I do not have one of those little lock out knobs on my unit......

Look what I am missing by buying a Deere. Well, I guess if no one has a good use for the "C" gear, I'm not missing much. But I do miss my red one.

Well, the rest of its working OK, but what happened to my name on it? It was suppose to be blue, not spelled blue and all the other. What when wrong, when they changed it, like what do I have to do now to get it to work right? When it worked right for months. I am way too old to like changes.

You do it like this now, Dick, (without the . before the last bracket).

Example Usage this text is blue[/color.]

The info is buried way down under FAQ, User Maint., R & P messages, special codes/tags, click on "info about vB code", scroll down.

Thanks for pointing this thing out. I have been tilling some ground that has not been tilled in a long time. With the tractor in low range and low 1ist power**** the tractor moves to fast. The tiller would get too much of a bite and pick up the rear of the tractor and the tiller would propel the tractor across the field. Wit the creeper I can till 6 to 8 inch deep in one pass. I guess if I ever have a flat I know how to Walk the tractor home on the tiller.

The creeper range is required for the 3 point trencher I use
on my YM 1802D. Because of the 3 foot deep trench you
must go very slow. You would have to use a fully hydrostatic drive for inching along or on a standard gearbox
drive you need the creeper range.
