What's this hole in my BX1500 water pump?

Been experiencing a coolant leak. I can see coolant dripping off the bottom of the water pump after I've used the tractor so I believe I need to replace the pump.

Here's a pic of the pump. There's a hole on the top of the pump.

What is it and do I plug it or go buy a new pump?

The hole isn't the problem. Plugging it will not help. The problem most likely is a failed seal.

That is weep hole to keep water out of bearing.

As mentioned a seal may have failed. This may mean the bearing may also have failed.

and if it hasn't, the bearing WILL fail shortly if run like that.

The seal failure and bearing failure are sometimes like the chicken and egg thing on which comes first.

It's a 'weep hole', as others have said.

Buy a new water pump.

The weep hole is there to let you know that the water pump is bad before a catastrophic failure. That is the weep hole's only purpose.
