Jinma 254, and JCB 1550B
Like the title says, I have one wheel, left rear, which locks up when my trac tor sits more than a day or two. It is an '01 254 jinma. I have to lock the rear diff to break it free, and after it snaps, it is fine. It seems to be worse when it is cold. I have changed the fluids, and am not really sure where to go from here. Any ideas? And by the way, what is with the forum censoring "*******"? (the split word above, prominent in the title of the site)

Presumably you set your brakes when parking the tractor after use. Check underneath the floorboards to see if the left brake linkage is sticking, or if it needs adjustment.

Or maybe you have gotten water in the left housing and it is siezing the brake mechanism when it sets... There should be a drain plug under the brake housing. You could remove that and see what comes out.

If it's got dry drums, rust is possible. But I don't recall a drain. Pretty sure by MY2001 the 200 Series had gone to wet discs. They have a drain plug on each housing, but isn't that primarily for residual gear oil?

My bad. My KM454 and TS354C had wet discs, as does my current John Deere. I guess I must occasionally substitute some of their attributes to the pair of JM254s I owned prior. Memory is a terrible thing to lose.

So yes, there's a chance the issue is with rust inside the left housing. But is there also a chance then that gear oil is getting past both oil seals? I know that drums can seize if they get oil on the shoes - like from a leaky slave cylinder - but I'm not sure about dry discs.

Thanks for the replies! I do not set the brakes when parked, I drop the bucket into the dirt. I will check for drains on the axles, as it is inside and warm now.

Perhaps I should have been more descriptive. Do you use the brakes to either come to a halt - or to hold the tractor in place - just prior to killing the engine? If yes, that's the point at which your brake or brake linkage could be sticking. And if that's the case, you just don't notice it until next time you use the tractor.

for the brakes to rust in place you dont have to set them there is only a small gap I believe. there should be a drain hole on each axle side and there are also grease zerks under the outer wheel that should have a few pumps put in regularly.

the drain holes are small and under the floor board area use a scribe to poke up in them
