I have a BCS 737 that I use a couple times a year to turn the garden and do a little mowing with a sickle bar mower. After getting it back from the shop the other day, I finally started it up to till the last remaining bed. It's always been a bit finicky to shift into/out of gear. I did make it the 50 feet up to the garden bed, but after stopping at the bed to engage the PTO, it wouldn't move nor engage the PTO. I think it does shift into and out of gear, because if I try to push it, the wheels will roll in neutral and won't when it's in gear. Any clues?

clutch fully engaging? I had an issue where it was moving a bit even when I had the clutch handle engaged, and I need to adjust the cable length. According to joel, it's not that difficult to open up and service the clutch, that's what you may need to do. Or take it to a reputable lawn and garden shop/bcs servicing dealer.

I don't think it's the cable. I play around with that occassionally, and hopefully haven't adjustied it to a totally useless position. I did manage to get it in 2nd gear, and now it seems locked there. I'm encouraged by your saying that it's not too difficult to engage the clutch. That may go on the winter to-do list.
