How shall i start this story..
One of my rear hydraulic hoses was playing up with the setting-rod of the 3pt for some time. Pushing it to the side released the rod allowing the 3pt to go to its lowest point.
I was tilling a dirty lawn today at one of my neighbours when for the x-time the 3pt kept hanging on the hose.
When pushing the hose, "as usual", the tiller bite down and at that same moment hit a rock resulting in a broken top link (own construction, and someone said it was going to be the first point to fail in another thread)
That results in a tiller driving forward at much higher speed than the tractor is moving and driving up the 3pt to its highest position.
In a fraction of a second. My hand was crushed between the 3pt arms and the back bulkhead.
I could switch of the engine with my left hand but could not remove my right hand.
My neigbour had to switch of the PTO (i could not reach the pto handle with my free hand), so i could drive the tractor forward releasing the pressure on the 3pt arms and so freeing my hand..........
Stupid, and nothing but stupid. 1 tie-wrap could have prevent this.
My thumb looked as a internal ( no bleeding) torn up mass of meat and black blood and we feared the worst. Visually: inmagine your thumbflesh twisted 180 degrees around the bone and you get an idea. Nail in place but all the rest not quite.
Now 5 hours later i am writing this message with both hands.
Nothing broken only a crushed thumb double the size of my left and surprisingly non painfull.
It could have been much, much worse.
Keep being alert and dont accept tolerances. We love them but they bite fast and furiously if we neglect them.
Didnt make pictures but you all can imagine how a crushed thumb looks like.
To the poster of the 3 pt remark: you were right. Just it didnt fail where i expected: the welds. It simply ripped off the thickwall 2.25x2.25" beam an inch above the welds
