So, this is a stupid question, but when should you consider refilling your tanks? When they are out or is there a particular PSI that you guys say no more, time to go to the store.

This is for an oxy acet setup and a 75/25 mig.

I don't give them back an ounce! I own all my bottles but I never get the same one back so I drain them down to nothing left, even the acetylene bottle! But caution, if you ever get into Tig welding aluminum, when the argon bottle gets down low it can have an effect on the weld.

Thanks Shield. I guess I had overheard a conversation about TIG that got me nervous. I own my own bottles, all shiny and new. Not looking forward to exchanging them and loosing that "new" look.

You should see how guys treat bottles on the job site. I seen a guy throw a oxygen bottle off the 2nd story! Now the bottle did land in a gravel pile, but still!

Hey, it ain't gonna dry out at my place or yours 'til at least June or July - maybe you could take up knitting and make a set of "cosies" for your bottles - that way you'd NEVER hafta look at 'em, plus you might be able to find yarn color to match your machines :D

Sorry, couldn't resist - I get flicked like that by wifey often, sounds like we both care about how our "toys" look - I know I could probably get twice as many projects finished if it was easier for me to switch into "git-r-dun" mode  ...Steve

(In my case, I'd need to knit REALLY fast - besides #5 O/A bottles there's 2 Ar and 3 C25's to "dress up" - just what I needed, ANOTHER project  )

Jeez... what is it about knitting? I just saw a performance art piece that involved... well, it was VERY adult.... and involved a girl sitting there just knitting... 30 days of knitting. Performance art. Darnit. Now this is stuck in my mind. Took a week to get it out of my mind.. hate you guys...

After 50+ years of repairing farm equipment I've finally got the hang of running nice beads. I'll save knitting for my "got it made" afterlife if I come back as a woman.

Hmmm. Paint your welding bottles pink with Hello Kitty and My Little Pony pictures all over them.
I guarantee no self-respecting guy is going to run off with them. On the other hand, there's a growing crowd of lady welders out there who might just take a hankering to your art work, and then you'd never get them back!

If you only have one set you might want to swap them before they are empty but if you have an extra set, use it all up.
