When JD 14SB was made.

I bought a JD 14SB self-propelled 21" walk behind mower on Saturday at an estate sale. It was practically full of fuel and looks very new. Started immediately, and I mowed the whole front yard. Then took the blade off and sharpened it. It hadn't been off in a while and was dull. Changed the oil and put synthetic into it. Seemed to only take 1/2 quart.

Anyone know when these were made? It isn't in the current JD model lineup but appears almost identical to their most expensive walk-behind currently sold, except for lower hp.

Is 800-522-7448 is right number to order a manual for it?

I can check when I get home but I believe I bought my 14SB back in '95. I still use it and have never had a problem with it. IMHO they are a very good mower

I went back to the estate sale today. The lady in charge said they told her it was a 1998.

It really looks almost new. They had another very scruffy-looking lawn mower and not much lawn. Suspect they mainly used the scruffy one. The air cleaner on the 14sb is spanking clean.

In the OM for 14SB's w/ serial #'s 470001-, it states in the oil change section to fill w/ 20 oz (0.6L) of oil; it says to let the dipstick rest on the tube & not to thread it in while checking the oil level; once oil level is correct then thread the dipstick tube into final position. Check to see if the diptick tube has the engine oil capacity stamped on it, it may say cap. is 20 oz., that's the same cap. you find on Deere's latest walk-behind mowers.
