When to plant Bermuda

OK, I was thinking I was finally ready to plant about 4 acres of common bermuda this weekend. I have about another 4 acres to do when I can get it ready. Weather calls for 80 degree highs. The problem is, it was 39 last night and we just had a cold snap. Every where I read says to wait until the soil temperature is 70 degrees, especially if you are using hulled seed, which is what I have.

I could wait another couple of weeks, but this is not a lawn, and there ain't gonnna be any irrigation going on. I'm afraid if I wait too long the rain will be over with and we will be into the long hot dry summer.

Dang, I'd be a terrible farmer......

I certainly understand the problem. As for recommendations . . . you're kiddin'. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif About all you can do in this part of the country is plant'em when you feel like it and hope for the best. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Bird, thats probably what I'll do, just plant when I can and hope for the best.....

Alan, of course it IS true that Bermuda does best in hot weather, but it does need sunand water, and unfortunately for us, hot, sun, and water just don't go together often enough in our area. The best luck I've had with Bermuda was in July, but that was a small lawn in town which my wife and daughters kept damp for several days.
