Ok besides the obvious using it when its mudy ect, does it hurt anything to use it when you want extra pulling power? ie plowing, box blading, pushing piles ect??

If you have hills with wet grass or loose gravel or doing FEL work... I would leave it on all the time. Tractors have only rear brakes and when you use 4wd the front tires are now tied to the rear and help in braking. Plenty of run-a-way tractor stories...

It also helps with traction when pulling implements. Does it hurt to leave it on all the time? I don't think so, except for driving on pavement...

I take the tractor out of 4WD when on a road or other hard surface as well as when I'm in flat ground. But as has been said, I have it engaged most of the time.

I always use 4WD unless im on hard flat surface or have to do alot of tight steering. Found the added traction almost necessary when pulling heavy logs out of woods. 1/2 bucket of dirt in FEL and pulled like a tank.

Thanks for the replies.

I agree. You definitely don't want to be in 4WD when scooping material off a concrete surface with the FEL. You want the front wheels to be able to break free and spin when the tractor motion stops before something breaks in the 4WD drive train.

Oh, you mean like 4 months ago when I was backing under a pine tree on an incline and eventually lost my 3215 TLB over a 10-foot high wall, smashed my hand and almost died.....and it probably could have been entirely avoided if I was in 4wd??

I'm still waiting for the dealer to make the necessary repairs, but once that thing lands back in my barn yard, it's going in 4wd and NEVER coming out.

My toy Kubota B7100 stays in four wheel drive all the time. Otherwise it doesn't move well in the terrain it has to move in.:D:D

With hundreds of hours on my Mahindra 7520 4x4, I can safely say that I have less than one hour of use in 2 wheel drive. For me, the only reason to take it out of 4 wheel drive is to drive on pavement, and that doesn't happen all that often.
