When you or your significant other invite dinner guests, who prepares the meal?

Tonight we are hosting a long term friend of mine who has never had a meal here, so I am the one who is taking care of everything: Salad, main dish, side dishes, wine service and selection :laughing: and it has long been the house rule here that whoever makes the invitation is responsible for the menu. How many of you have the same rule? BTW, whoever does not cook, does the cleanup. Fair enough?

Sharon says I am a better cook than she is. In truth, I may be a more willing cook just because I eat more than she does.

We usually do a menu together. Our biggest challenge is trying to find vegetarian dishes that are tasty and different for one of the DILs who is a vegetarian.

I do all of the meat prep and cooking. We share the rest of it. I do the heavy pot scrubbing just for practical reasons.

Oh god no... my wife cooks regardless... and for good reason (not to mention she is an amazing chef). My duties are limited to the BBQ, smoker, oh yeah and uncorking the wine. I think she appreciates me more when I am productive outside the house. Although I did fix the toilet this morning.

This has become a popular philosophy with a lot of people. My first ex-wife, for instance.

My wife did the same thing when we first got together. I've never let it live bit down. Or the time she caught something on fire in the toaster oven (remember those?) And yelled fire fire!!! I walked up calmly, unplugged it and a quick blow of breath and it was out.

That was many moons ago, now she's become an excellent chef.

I cook if the weather is good ie:summer and it is BBQ. She cooks in the winter, but both of us are involved for almost all guest meals. I will be chopping the onions, on one side of the sink, and she will be chopping the other stuff on the other. It's worked for over 36 years for us, hard to knock.
