I just came back from the dealer after picking up 10 gal of G134 Hydraulic oil, 1 Hydraulic filter and 1 fuel filter. I must say I thought I was going to have to clean my shorts when they gave my the total, $153.53 WOW@!

Is there somewhere else to get that stuff cheaper?

I asked a similar question a little while ago, and the consensus seems to be that we need to go to aftermarket parts and oils to keep the cost down to earth. It sounds like the prices you got charged are almost the same as what my dealer is charging (about $30 for a 2.5 gallon jug of hydraulic oil, for example).

I'm trying to figure out all the cross-reference information for all the filters, and I'm looking at aftermarket trans/hydraulic oil. Amsoil has a good synthetic trans/hydraulic oil for about the same price as the New Holland stuff we get from the dealer. I figure if I'm going to be paying that kind of money for oil, it may as well be synthetic.

We are probably the best you can do. We buy our oil in bulk and package it in smaller quanities. I am not sure how freight will work out, but its probably worth checking out.

Wix does list oil and fuel filters for NH tractors, but they are not that much less than your dealer, I'd think. When I had my service done last, filter prices were reasonable.

Just curious...how many hours do you put on your tractor per year?

The reason I ask is (this is not a comment specifically about your situation), I wonder if by purchasing and using cheaper consumables like filters and oils if we're not being 'penny wise and pound foolish'. Yes, when compared to automotive filters (the frame of reference for most of us), tractor filters are more expensive, but most of us only change our tractor's engine oil and filters twice a year and the hydraulic oil and filters every other year. Hence my question about how many hours you use your tractor.

For peace of mind, I am sticking with genuine NH filters.

I use the NH filters and after market oils. Change all based upon the owners manual.

This is what I do as well.

I have never understood why all you guys spend so much on a tractor and then want to skimp on maintence. Dont you think the investment you have made is worth a few extra dollars to make sure you are getting what is engineered for your tractor. Just my opinion dont beat me up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would also take a look at fleetgaurd filters. They are a step above the OEM filters. We use them for most of our service work. They are about 20% more expensive, but if you tear them appart you can see why. Well worth the money.

You've opened a can of worms. I remember when I asked this question... Some will almost condem you on being so cheap and others will jump out of the wood work to let you know they found another to join them on their success with after market oil and filters. I will jump in and say after the warranty goes out I plan on using Wix filters, Rotella Oil, and TSC Hyd fluid. Until then I will stick with NH brand so they can't suggest I used the wrong fluids. I've already bought the filters just so when the warranty is out I can have them ready. I got them from an online company that will ship free if you purchase 6 or more. I wished I had the name ad web address handy. Do a search for Wix and you will find it on here. Oh.. btw I spend a lot of money on my family car and truck and I don't go to the Dodge and Chrysler dealer for oil and lube changes and the truck has way over 100000 miles on it followed closely by the car. Using good lubricants and filters and keeping them on schedual I think is the trick.
