I'm not sure what it's called but warehouses have translucent (clear) plastic door strips, I'm guessing 1/4" thick and about 2 to 3 ft. wide.
My horse stable has Dutch doors 4ft x 8ft opening that we keep open. This evening before dark a flock of birds went in to roost.
They make a mess, crap on everything, drink out of water buckets. I chased them out & closed doors until dark.
I'm thinking that clear heavy plastic horses could go in but keep birds out. Plus keep blowing snow & wind out.
Anyone know where to get that stuff & is it a good idea?
Amazon has this ribbed stuff but probably too thin, would roll up & tear. No problem getting horses used to it, hold it open & feed bucket until used to it.

Looks like a good choice to me.

I think they are actually vinyl strips. I've installed several sets in commercial buildings.

An acquaintance had a barn that they equipped with those doors; I would suggest that you make sure that you desensitize your horses to the door, the motion, the sound, and going through it. It was a huge deal for his horses.

FWIW: It isn't trivial to keep them clean.

Let us know how it works out for you.

I would vote for bird repellers on a timer, but that's just me.

All the best,

Peter

If you decide to install the strip door, be aware the amount of overlap between the strips determines the difficulty of entering. I would think butting each strip edge to edge would be enough to keep a bird out if the strip extended to the ground.

Bought mine from Farmtek. They came with a metal header that sets the overlap correctly and all the mounting hardware as well. Pretty painless install.
